9AM PST - According to John Clayton of ESPN, the 49ers have agreed to terms with a few players including Vikings linebacker Dontarrious Thomas and Lions quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan. It’s official club policy not to release any transactions until the deals are done, meaning the player has passed his physical and inked his contract. Folks like Clayton usually get this type of information from the agents.

O’Sullivan played for 49ers offensive coordinator Mike Martz last year in Detroit.

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the San Francisco 49ers have signed free agent QB J.T. O'Sullivan (Lions) to a one-year contract worth $645,000.

M. Martz mag ja ungewöhnliche, aggressive Offenses und seine Greatest show on Turf haben ja damals auch den SB gewonnen.

Hoffentlich ist O'Sullivan in der NFL jetzt angekommen.

As for the rest of the 49ers early moves, well, it would certainly seem that new offensive coordinator Mike Martz has a big say in things. You can't really convince me that San Francisco would have gone out and pursued either ex-Rams receiver Isaac Bruce or ex-Lions backup quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan if Martz wasn't telling head coach Mike Nolan and general manager Scot McCloughan he wanted them.

Das ist so noch nicht raus. Smith hat einiges zu beweisen, und auch Hill muss zeigen, dass seine guten Leistungen gegen Ende der Saison kein Zufall waren. O.Sullivan hat derzeit noch einen wichtigen Vorteil: er kennt das System von Martz schon aus der einen gemeinsamen Saison in Detroit.

A three-man race at QB?

You know that much-anticipated, open-competition battle between Alex Smith and Shaun Hill for the starting quarterback position with the 49ers this year? Well, add J.T. O'Sullivan's name to the fray. Really. Coach Mike Nolan says it's so. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz says he's all for the idea. Get ready, kids, for a three-headed 49ers QB this summer, because these guys say they're serious.

It sort of made inquiring minds wonder earlier this week when Nolan kept dropping O'Sullivan's name in there with all the questions about the impending Smith/Hill open competition.

On Sunday, when Nolan again was asked about his impressions of Smith and Hill at the conclusion of San Francisco's three-day spring minicamp, Nolan pretty much laid down the gauntlet that O'Sullivan - a seventh-year veteran now with his ninth NFL organization who has thrown a grand total of 26 regular-season passes - really, truly, is going to be part of the starting competition at the position.

"You know what," Nolan said, "I'll say this: Probably the biggest impression that I got out of the quarterback position is that it is probably going to be a three-man race rather that just two. I think J.T. O'Sullivan, as it goes, is going to be in the thick of it. So, I'm excited about that."

49ers ersetzen QB Olson mit Wright

Die San Francisco 49ers haben Rookie Quarterback Kyle Wright "off waivers" von den Minnesota Vikings erhalten. Zuvor hatten die 49ers Quarterback Drew Olson entlassen, um Platz für Wright im Kader zu schaffen.
Olson hatte in der vergangenen Saison keinen Einsatz gehabt und war nur im Saisonfinale in Cleveland als Backup auf der Bank aufgeboten worden.
Die Vikings hatten Wright am 2. Juli freigestellt.

Im Roster bleiben alle 3 Ex-NFLE-QBs, Hill wird Starter, JT Backup, Schmitz fliegt.

Was für ein Traum: der 1st Pick overall wird von 3 NFLE-QBs verdrängt. Dann müßte man Herrn Godell mal fragen, ob die Liga wirklich so mies war!

Long way to go in the camp.

• Mike Nolan, the 49ers head coach, told the Sacramento Bee that both his quarterback candidates, Alex Smith and Shaun Hill, would have an opportunity to start an exhibition game and that he hoped one of them would be leading the competition by the third exhibition game Aug. 21 in Chicago. That player would then start the Chicago game and be the 49ers' opening week starter.

"Once a guy is the guy, he better stay ready and stay atop his game," Nolan said. "It's not like this is a locked-in job forever."

Look for the 49ers to play musical chairs at quarterback this year. One bad game will lead to a change. When the battle seems this close, making a change is not a hard issue.

J.T. O´Sullivan spielt sehr gut als Starter bei den Niners. Er hat sich bewährt und das nicht weil A.Smith auf IRL sitzt, sondern weil er besser war.
Seine Statistik hat zwar gegen Philli gelitten, doch wenn er ne vernünftige Line hätte, dann wären mehr Siege und ne bessere Statistik drinne
